Profile summary

Professional biography

I originally graduated in Biology at the University of Turin, Italy, with a specialization in zoology, ecology, and conservation. I then moved to the UK to specialize further in medical parasitology and entomology with a Master at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM). After a PhD in parasite molecular epidemiology at Liverpool University, I moved back to LSTM with a PostDoc (both in the laboratory and on the field in Ghana) focussing on the epidemiology, diagnostics, and xenomonitoring of lymphatic filariasis, malaria, and arboviruses. I also have a first level master degree in science journalism and institutional communication of science from the University of Ferrara, Italy. Before joining OU in May 2024, I completed a European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) training fellowship in public health microbiology at the Instituto Nacional de Saúde Ricardo Jorge (INSA) in Lisbon.

Research interests

I am interested in the integration of epidemiological and molecular (including genomic) data to study and investigate infectious disease transmission and outbreaks. This include both basic and applied aspects in the fields of disease surveillance, preparedness, and control. More specifically, I am interested in (re-)emerging public health issues and vector-borne pathogens such as arboviruses and malaria.
